Montford
Respectfully Revived
The new owners of this 1907 architectural gem jumped at the chance to make one of Montford’s most iconic arts and crafts abodes their own. But to meet their modern needs, they put their trust in The Hands of Sean Perry for a respectful renovation that would celebrate — rather than hide — the home’s 117-year history.
The owners’ multifaceted vision for the home began on the main level, with the kitchen, mudroom and baths. While charming, the original kitchen’s layout was too cramped for cooking and entertaining in the 21st century, so the team got to work transforming the space into a functional and elegant hub, with new custom cabinetry from Union Woodworks, black soapstone counters and an all-new stainless steel appliance package from Haywood Appliance.
Other updates included a refreshed mudroom entrance, the addition of a convenient half bath, and repairs to the front porch’s herringbone-patterned flooring, flawlessly matching the old with the new. With future plans to restore the upper-level apartments and return the home to its original single-family layout, this may not be the last the team sees of this delightful young family and their beautiful historic home.
